讲座人介绍 Dr. Xiaohong Peng is currently a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Aston University. He is the Postgraduate Programme Director and responsible for the wireless network research laboratory in the Department of Electrical, Electronic & Power Engineering. He received the BEng and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University, China, in 1982 and 1985, respectively. He did research on coding for digital communication systems at the University of Manchester and was awarded the PhD degree in 1995. Dr. Peng has published more than 110 academic papers in journals and international conferences, including IEEE Transactions papers on Information Theory, Wireless Communications, Vehicular Technology, and Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. He was the recipient of the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Connected Smart City in 2015, the Top Cited Paper Award by Elsevier Journal on Ad Hoc Networks in 2006. He has led more than 15 research projects sponsored by research councils such as EPSRC, Royal Academy of Engineering, and industry in collaboration with leading companies such as British Telecom (BT), Xyratex, BlackBerry, BAE Systems, and Jaguar Land Rover.
讲座内容 Connected vehicles will pave the way for supporting various applications for road safety, smart and green transportation, location-dependent services, and in-vehicle Internet access. The rapidly increasing number of vehicles in large cities is responsible for traffic congestion and the consequences in terms of huge economic cost and environmental problems. Connected vehicle solutions using wireless communications and networking technologies are very promising to alleviate traffic congestions and improve road safety for autonomous as well as man-controlled driving. These solutions will also contribute to the development of intelligent transportation systems under the framework of smart city. This seminar will discuss the challenges as vehicles become more autonomous, and why wireless communications technologies in terms vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) are vital for maintaining the connectivity required for autonomous vehicles. We will also examine how a Vehicle Cloud can support the systematic implementation of services in the vehicular network.
